If you have an old piece of wood furniture, like an old
oak desk or bookcase, that has
been painted over and over again until it has become ugly
now, consider having it stripped

that only needs sanding and a finish. Doing it yourself
allows you to control
the wood tones and get the look YOU want and not someone
else's guess at it.
Adding a finish to wood is not difficult at all. You can
choose from sprays, wipes, or brush on wood
finishes. The easiest finish available today is a
polyurethane mix available in either water or oil based. Other
previously popular choices are varnish, lacquer, and shellac. Varnish
is made up of synthetic resins in combination with drying oils. This gives a
nice oiled look with added durability from the resins. Lacquer
is a synthetic product that gives a nice deep shine. Shellac
is a natural finish known for a shiny coat in available in either amber or clear.
